LIUBOU SAS
Liubou Sas is a prize-winning artist based in Belarus whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. Her disctinctive still-lifes, abstractions, and portraits are created in a particular style which is influenced by both expressionism and impressionism. What interests Sas most in her artistic process is the "person as an image" and the translation of their spirit onto canvas. She most often creates using acrylics and oils.
As an artist based in Vitebsk, Belarus, I draw inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the city, which was once home to renowned artists such as Chagall and Malevich. My creative journey began at the age of 29, when I joined the studio of the famous artist and art theorist Maley Alexander, who introduced me to the basics of painting. Since then, painting has become my main activity, and I cannot imagine my life without it.My art is primarily focused on the portrayal of women, who are, in my opinion, the most complex and mysterious creatures on the planet. I am fascinated by their complexity, and I seek to represent them on a plane through my unique artistic technique, which I call "washed stone". This technique combines a rough
stone surface with a gentle female image, symbolizing the idea that a woman, with her beauty and weakness, can conquer any force and change the course of history.
I draw inspiration from the works of the expressionists, and my art is constantly evolving towards expressionism, moving further away from realism. Through my art, I strive to unravel the mysteries of womanhood and celebrate the strength and beauty of the female spirit.
